PREPARING TO TRAVEL: HEALTH AND VISAS
Health: As of December 2021, Uruguay is open to fully vaccinated visitors. For updated details, check the Ministry for Public Health website (Spanish), or travel advice by the US or UK governments (English).
The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that travelers be up to date on vaccines. See here for their recommendations for travel to Uruguay
Visas: Visitors from many countries planning to stay less than 90 days in Uruguay do not require a visa. The official visa exemptions (as of February 14, 2019) can be found here. Please verify your visa needs with the Uruguayan consulate or embassy nearest you.

LODGING We recommend that out-of-town visitors stay within walking distance of the symposium and workshop venue, and reserve lodging as soon as possible.
There are no national holidays during the symposium period, so booking will likely be less difficult and expensive than during high season.
Below are a few nearby hotels with prices per night for a stay of 4 days (3 nights) as of May 2021. The Centro Histórico has many hotels, at varying price points. AIRPORT AND CITY TRANSFER
Montevideo has one major airport, MVD (Aeropuerto Internacional de Carrasco, ~12.6 miles from city center, Capitán Juan Antonio Artigas, 14000 Ciudad de la Costa, Departamento de Canelones, Uruguay; travel webpage). To reach Montevideo from the airport, select from taxi, shuttle, bus and public transportation.
Bus Service to/from the airport: there are regular transport services (every 15 minutes) from/to the city to/from the airport, with the following bus lines: C1, C3, C5, DM1, 701 704, 705, 724, 710, 711). To travel to other cities in Uruguay, companies CUTCSA, COPSA, COETC, COME S.A., and UCOT operate from the airport terminal. –
Taxis: all taxi companies can access the airport. Taxis can be hailed on the street or called by phone. The price from the airport to the center of Montevideo is approximately $ 1000 (Uruguayan pesos), approximately 25 USD dollars. The ride from the airport to the city center does not take more than 45 minutes during peak hours. – USD 46,00.
Shuttles: the shuttle service is available at the Taxis & Shuttles stand in the arrivals hall. We recommend you book your seat in advance (one way ticket per person USD 13).
Uber: MVD to the area of the Museo Histórico Nacional / hotels – approx. USD 17,
FERRY FROM BUENOS AIRES
It is also possible to arrive to Montevideo from Buenos Aires, Argentina, by ferry. There is daily service from/to Buenos Aires to/from Montevideo. The Río de la Plata crossing lasts 2hs 30min. (A one way ticket by ferry costs approx. USD 145,00).
From the ferry port in Montevideo it is possible to take a bus, taxi or UBER to the Museo Histórico Nacional. Please verify visa requirements for both countries and timing for border formalities if you choose this form of travel.
